Stir over officer's transfer

Mysore/Bangalore, dhns :

The transfer of Mysore City Corportion and Mysore Urban Development Authority Commissioner P Manivannan as Shimoga Deputy Commissioner has come in for sharp criticism from various quarters, in Mysore on Wednesday.

Even as many organisations took to streets protesting the order, rumours were afloat that Manivannan’s transfer may even be revoked by the government.

Congress and JD(S) leaders too joined the agitations. While, the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore has even given a call for Mysore bundh on November 16 against the transfer, and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has declared its support to the agitation.

Sources in the CM’s office said that Mr Manivanna had never functioned as Deputy Commissioner though his contemporaries have held the post.
“Mr Manivannan was contacted by the CM’s office before appointing him as the DC. He gave his consent.

Working in the home district of a CM is always a prestigious issue for any IAS officer. The CM too spoke to those politicians of Mysore who are opposing the transfer. Now everything is settled”, the officer said. He also said the government would not cancel the transfer.
